Multiday Hiking Adventure in the Amalfi Coast Mountains
High up in the Lattari Mountains lies a small hamlet, with all the charm of classic Italian village. Yet almost unseen by most tourists. The cobblestone alleys and stone houses are adorned with flower-filled windows. Narrow passages open up to cozy little squares. Where locals gather on benches to chat and enjoy the sunrays.
In a tiny village like this, your arrival won’t go unnoticed. At first, the locals might curiously observe the new face in town. But by the third day, they’ll greet you like a long time friend. And the barista at the café will already know your go-to order by heart.
Wander around the passagways, and you’ll witness a local way of life. A small oasis that remains largely untouched by mass tourism. Neatly kept gardens and domestic animals in stables. All this intimately enclosed by the ruins of the ancient city wall.
Accommodation in a Rural Cottage House
We’ll have a cozy mountain house all to ourselves!
It’s 250 m², with 4 rooms and 3 bathrooms, so there’s plenty of space to spread out.The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped, and there’s a lovely patio in the garden with a BBQ area. There’s also a living room where we can relax after hiking, enjoy dinner together, chat, or play board games.
Hikes we will do togheter:
Around the “Borghi” of Vietri sul Mare
Borghi refers to small, traditional villages. Often centuries-old, with narrow cobblestone streets, stone houses, and simple yet charming buildings. They are painted rural scenes, in real-life. There are many of these tiny hamlets scattered across the Amalfi Coast. Each with its own unique character.
We will have a long but pleasant hike, from our little village down to the seaside. On the way we visit many small hamlets of the Amalfi Coast, most of them unseen by tourists.
Instead of taking the paved roads, we’ll walk the ancient mulattieri trails. These ancient paths, where used by locals for centuries, before the main road was even built. The name “mulattieri” comes from the Italian word “mulo” (donkey). These ancient paths were mainly used to carry goods with donkeys. They transported harvested lemons, wood, and other items.
We pass by one of the best-kept secret villages of the Amalfi Coast, the fabulous Albori.
Between the villages, the trek offers a great variety of landscapes. We hike through lush forests and open fields, with panoramic views of the Bay of Salerno. We’ll take a break near a natural spring to picnic and rest a bit.
As we descend toward the sea, you’ll notice the change in atmosphere. Closer to the coast, the villages become a bit more touristy.
On the final part of our trek, we’ll pass lemon orchards to reach Cetara. Cetara is an active fishing village. We’ll visit the lively port, where fishermen untangle their nets after returning from the sea. If the weather’s good, we can swim at the beach.
Hike to the Avvocata Sanctuary:
From our hamlet starts the most important pilgrimage route of the Amalfi Coast. This path leads us to the Avvocata Sanctuary. And to the peak of Mount Falerzio (1014 meters).
From the summit, you’ll enjoy a 360-degree panorama of the coastline and mountain peaks.
The Avvocata Sanctuary is high up on the mountain. 860 meters above sea level. And only accessible on foot, with no drivable roads leading up to it.
After a well-deserved break and picnic, we’ll continue our journey to the town of Maiori.
We’ll descend along a steep path with stunning views. Passing by Mediterranean terraces with lemon orchards and vineyards.
Maiori, one of the largest towns on the Amalfi Coast, boasts the longest beach in the area.
In Maiori, you can try local specialties. From sweets unique to the region to cheeses made in the nearby mountain villages of Tramonti.
Mountain Pass Hike to Tramonti Valley
We’ll cross the mountain pass into the neighboring valley of Tramonti. This is a long and scenic trek through forested areas.
Tramonti, one of the Amalfi Coast’s lesser-known villages. It’s a rural gem with small farms producing local cheeses and wine.
After reaching the village, we’ll visit a family-run winery. You’ll be greeted with local snacks and invited for a wine tasting. Plus, you’ll learn about the valley’s winemaking traditions.
The Immediate Surroundings:
Nature, Waterfalls, and Ancient Ruins
The famous Benedictine Abbey is only five minutes from our accommodation. The area is surrounded by lush forests. Countless hiking trails start right here.
Nearby, you’ll find the forgotten ruins of a Roman aqueduct. A short hike will take you to a hidden waterfall. Following the river upstream leads to this secret waterfall, nearly 20 meters high. In its crystal-clear pools, you might even spot minnows. In its crystal-clear pools, you might even spot little tritons.
The Village We Will Stay In:
Our hamlet is part of the city of Cava de’ Tirreni. And has a truly rural, even remote feel. There is only one deli-style minimarket. You can go there to make a custom-made sandwich and buy the essentials. The minimarket is owned by a cheerful American expat who decided to move here. And live his Italian dream in this slow-paced, magical village.
There are five restaurants within walking distance to suit all budgets. Offering plenty of local food and pizza. There’s also a small bar. There’s also a small bar. But it follows Italian opening hours, so it closes around 12 and reopens in the afternoon, around 4-5.
Although it feels remote, the village is well-connected to Cava de’ Tirreni. A frequent bus will take you to the city center in under 15 minutes. There you can find bigger supermarkets, ice cream shops, or go for a drink at one of the many pubs.

Interested to join our hiking adventure?
Leave your email / other contact information in the form below. We’ll send you the full itinerary. Feel free to ask any questions in the form as well!
How many people can join a tour?
Our tours are small and personal, hosted by us (Veronika and Alex). We usually keep our tours to a max of 12 people, typically around 8, but this can vary depending on availability and tour specifics. It’s more like going on hikes and walks with a group of friends than a big group tour.
What is included in the tour price?
We try to include as many things as possible. The things that are almost always included ( unless otherwise specified in the tour description) are:
your airport transfer, accommodation, transfers between program activities. Also escorted hikes and walks, breakfast, and at least one welcome dinner. We also include some museum entrance fees in most tours.
Please note that airfare, meals not listed in the itinerary, and personal expenses are not included.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Most attractions on the Amalfi Coast are outdoors. For hiking tours, we still plan to hike in light rain. But, if it’s raining heavily, we may adjust some of the mountain hikes to easier walks that are more manageable in wet conditions. If the rain persists, we’ll switch to alternative programs. For example a ceramic-making class, a visit to the Paestum temples, or a mozzarella farm. We always have rainy-day plans ready and will consult with you if adjustments are needed.
What is the meeting point for the tour?
The meeting point is specified for each tour. Usually, we offer airport transfers from Naples Airport, and pickups from Naples Central Station can be arranged. Upon request, Salerno Airport and Salerno Central Station are also possible meeting points.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, travel insurance is required. If you’re unable to participate in one of the activities, we won’t be able to offer a refund for that activity. However, your travel insurance should cover such situations.
What languages is the tour available in?
Our groups are international, so the main language is English. I also speak fluent Hungarian and Italian, and Alex is a native German speaker. You can join our tours without knowing English, as long as we share a common language to communicate.
Are there any age restrictions?
Most of our tours focus on hiking, so there are no strict age limits. But, if you’re traveling with children, they should be old enough to handle hikes of 7–10 km.
As for adults, age doesn’t matter. Whether you’re 18 or 80, as long as you’re able to do the hikes, you’re more than welcome to join!
Do I need to be physically fit to join the tour?
Most of our hikes can be completed with an average fitness level. If you’re used to longer walks, you should be just fine! If you’re unsure, feel free to ask me for the full hike plan to see if it matches your fitness level.
What should I bring with me on the tour?
Besides the usual items you’d pack, it’s a good idea to bring comfortable hiking clothes. A good pair of hiking shoes is necessary for most of our tours. Don’t forget a raincoat, and you might want to bring a small flashlight as well. Bring a reusable water bottle, as many trails have drinkable spring water or fountains on the way. A detailed packing list will be sent to you a few weeks before the tour.
What happens if I arrive late?
Most of our main programs are planned for the second day. But we do have activities, such as welcome dinners or short walks, on the day of arrival.
We ask that all participants arrive at the specified meeting point within the time window provided in the tour details. Usually between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM on the arrival day. If you arrive late, we cannot guarantee a refund or reschedule, as we have a set itinerary. But, your travel insurance should cover missed programs.
If your flights or trains are delayed, try to communicate the delay with us as soon as possible. So we can arrange your transfer as smoothly as possible. In the case of late arrivals after 10:00 PM, the driver may request a night fee compensation. This night fee should be paid by you and covered by your travel insurance.
Its important that you provide us with your flight information. So we can keep track of any potential delays and assist you accordingly.
